THE END RESULT OF SOUND DOCTRINE

Expository:  I Timothy 1:5

   INTRODUCTION:

       A.  Sound - HUGIANO - to be healthy; sound in health - (from v. 10)

            1.  Healthy - Luke 5:31 - “Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who
need a doctor, but the sick. “(NIV)

            2.  Good Health - III John 2 - “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good
health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting
                 along well.”  (NIV)

            3.  Other Uses:

                  a.  I Timothy 1:10, 6:3; II Timothy 1:13, 4:3; Titus 1:9, 1:13, 2:1-2.

        B.  Paul was exhorting Timothy in I Timothy 1:3 to charge certain men not to
              teach a different doctrine.

            1.  These men were teaching the law, yet they neither understood the
purpose of the law nor what the were affirming - V. 7.

            2.  These men were outside the realm of sound doctrine.

                 a.  Jude 3 - “Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you
about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to
contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.”
                      NIV)

                 b.  Galatians 1:7-9 - “which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some
people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the
gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should
preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be
eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say
again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you
accepted, let him be eternally condemned!” (NIV)

       C.  In verse 5 Paul told Timothy that the end of the charge to these brethren
should lead to: "Love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith
             unfeigned."

            1.  Fables and genealogies are useless to the growth of God's people.

            2. Sound doctrine is that which is built around the Gospel of Jesus.

            3.  Fables end in strife, but sound doctrine ends in PEACE.

       D.  Today, let's discuss "The End Result Of Sound Doctrine" and make sure
that our doctrine is reaching its objective.

   I.  LOVE OUT OF A PURE HEART.

       A.  Galatians 5:6 - “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision
has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through
             love. “ (NIV)

            1.  You can come to every service and still die lost if there is no love.

                 a.  I Cor. 13:1-8.

            2.  It is possible to sing songs of praise to God without a word of it coming
                 from the heart.

            3.  It is possible to give half of your income and hate every dollar you give.

            4.  You can take the Lord's supper in vain - not from the heart.

            5.  The TRUE Christian serves from his heart out of  love.

       B.  Eph. 2:10 - created unto good works.

             1.  We do what we want -- love to do.

             2.  Working for God without love for doing it brings  MISERY.

             3.  If you love what you are doing you will put your heart into it.

             4.  When you find someone in love with Jesus, you can't stop them from
                  working for Jesus.

       C.  God calls me to serve from the heart.

             1.  Singing - Eph. 5:19.

             2.  Giving - II Cor. 9:7.

             3.  Whole life - I Cor. 13.

             4.  If the whole heart is not involved, then what I do is worthless.

II. LOVE OUT OF A GOOD CONSCIENCE.

       A.  A conscience is a safe guard in religion ONLY IF it has been directed by
            SOUND DOCTRINE.

            1.  Conscience is the Christian "Safety valve."

            2.  Like a finely tuned watch - must be set correctly.

       B.  If our conscience is set correctly it will cause us to repent when we do go
            against sound doctrine.

            1.  If we do that which we find to be right, it will be out of a good conscience.

       C.  We must guard against letting our conscience become seared or
hardened by sin in our lives.

            1.  I TImothy 4:1-4.

III. LOVE OUT OF A FAITH UNFEIGNED.

       A.  Unfeigned means unmixed or unhypocritical.

       B.  Religiously it means that we don't claim one thing and live another.
             (Inconsistency).

             1.  If I am just going through a form of serving Jesus,  I am just "Play-acting"
                  a part.

             2.  God wants sincerity.

       C.  God never ask me to have faith in something without evidence.

             1.  Acts 2:22-24 - you know.

             2.  Acts 2:36 - know assuredly.

             3.   John 20:30-31.

             4.  I Cor. 15:5-8 - eye witnesses.

       D.  Sound doctrine is the only thing that can give UNFEIGNED FAITH.

   CONCLUSION:

       A.  Does sound doctrine accomplish its goal in your life?
