NECESSITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT

   INTRODUCTION: 
 
       A. It is only natural that one would want to grow and develop.

       B. Some develop faster than others.  There are many reasons why:
            (environment, personal goals, associations, etc.)

       C.  The Christian too, must be a well developed person.

       D.  Today, let's look at the life of Jesus and see four areas that are
             NECESSITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT
 

   I.  WISDOM - (Mental - INTELLECTUAL)

       A.  SOPHIA - the practical ability to sense and understand life in all relations and 
             situations.  

            1.  Used as the skill of a helmsman, a technique whereby one can guide one's 
                 way through the perils of life to the desired goal.

       B.  How do I attain wisdom?

            1.  Gift of God - James 1:5

                 a.  Joseph - Gen. 4:16, 37-40

                 b.  Joshua - Deut. 34:9

                 c.  Solomon - I Ks. 3:10-12

            2.  Personal experience

                 a.  Job 12:12; 15:7-10; 32:7

            3.  Traditions of our fathers - Job 8:8-10

            4.  Learn wisdom

                 1.  Proverbs 4:11; 9:9-10

                 2.  Proverbs 13:20 - "...walk with wise..."

                 3.  Proverbs 29:15 - correction

  II.  STATURE - (PHYSICAL MATURITY)

       A.  HELIKIA - primarily an age, as a certain length of life as "of age".  It has to do 
             with matters relating to the individual, either his time of life or height.

       B.  Maturity is a must:

            1.  Eph. 4:11-16

            2.  I Cor. 3:1-3

            3.  I Cor. 13:11 - (context)

 III.  FAVOR WITH GOD - (SPIRITUAL)

       A.  CHARIS - denotes grace in a person, graciousness, subjectivity; a sense of 
             favor received, thanks.  The friendly disposition from which kindly acts
             proceed, graciousness, loving kindness, goodwill generally. (favor)

       B.  Why did Jesus receive favor?

            1.  Sonship - Jno. 3:16;  Rom. 8:14-17

            2.  Justice - Jno. 2:13-22

            3.  Compassion - Matt. 9:35-38

            4.  Mercy - Jno. 8:1-11

            5.  Friendship - Jno. 15:12-17

            6.  Good self-image - Lk. 4:16-30 - knew who He was and why he was here.

  IV.  FAVOR WITH MEN - (SOCIAL)

       A.  CHARIS - same as #3 (point)

       B.  Acts 2:47 - showing Christianity

            1.  Consistent - 2:42

            2.  Reverent to God - 2:43

            3.  Bonded together - 2:44

            4.  Shared possessions - 2:44-45;  4:32-35

            5.  Shared daily fellowship - 2:44 c

            6.  Grateful - 2:46c

       C.  I Cor. 9:19-22

   CONCLUSION:

       A.  Are you developing according to God's way?
