Numbers 32:23

   INTRODUCTION:

       A.  This verse is used many ways:

            1.  Sin done in the darkness.

            2.  Breaking God's laws.

            3.  Adultery.

            4.  Young folks - improper relations.

            5.  Shady business deals, etc.

       B.  Background:  Exodus journey to the last few miles.

   I.  READ AND COMMENT - NUMBERS 32:1-23.

       A.  The problem:  Discouragers of God's people.  (This passage is awesome
when seen in its context.  God will not put up with people who refuse to be
involved in the fight while others are dying from trying.)

II.  WAYS WE DISCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER.

       A.  Never taking part when ask.

            1.  Sometimes a struggle to get 8-10 men to help lead an assembly.

            2.  Some do not want to develop themselves.

            3.  We all have various talents - we must develop them.

       B.  Never giving an encouraging word to "Every" member.

            1.  Hebrews 3:12-13; 10:25 - encourage one another.

            2.  We are full of negativism.

                 a.  Bringers of evil reports like the 10 spies.

                 b.  God will judge those who are so negative.

       C.  Being satisfied to stand on the "East side" of the river.

            1.  Many are satisfied with "status quo."

            2.  We are comfortable with what we have here.

       D.  By refusing to be with the people of God during the warfare.

            1.  Don't want to get together and fight the battle.

            2.  Hebrews 10:24 - 25   no matter how often it is.

            3.  How would you like to fight a war "ALONE?"

       E.  By avoiding contact with your brethren.

            1.  Some leave as soon as possible - very discouraging.

            2.  How can we ever learn to love one another and share in each other's
lives if we are always running away from each other.

       F.  By causing problems and conflict in the church family over petty and
             unimportant things.

            1.  This is "sowing discord" among brethren and comes under the list of
                 seven things God hates.

                 a.  Proverbs 6:19.

   CONCLUSION:

       A.  If you are a discourager of God's people, "...Behold, you have sinned
against Jehovah.  And be sure your sins will find you out."
