What Submission Really Does

   INTRODUCTION:

       A. It was a practice of the N. T. writers to state and exemplify a doctrine and then 
            show how it works.

            1. This is the thrust of this passage.

       B. Submission stated without understanding how it works is useless.  What will it 
            practice?

       C. Let's notice some areas where submission will benefit our lives.
 

   I. LIVES IN HARMONY WITH ONE ANOTHER.

       A. Eph. 4:3.

       B. I Cor. 1:10.

       C. I Cor. 3:1-4.

  II. BE SYMPATHETIC.

       A. The ability to hurt with others.

       B. The disciples had not learned this when Jesus was in the garden - thus, Jesus 
             hurt alone.

       C. Rom. 12:15 - "Mourn with those who mourn."

 III. LOVE AS BROTHERS.

       A. A brother (fleshly) is willing to give himself for his own brother.

       B. I Peter 4:8-10.

       C. I John 3:16.

  IV. COMPASSIONATE.

       A. Matt. 9:35-38 - Compassion motivates toward good.

       B. John 8:1-12 - Woman in adultery - compassion.

       C. I John 3:17.

   V. BE HUMBLE.

       A. "A stalk of corn when green stands tall; when ripe it bends over."

       B. Ps. 8 - Lower than angels. (Heb. 2:5-8).

       C. John 13.

  VI. DOES NOT SEEK TO REPAY - VS. 9-14.
